Ever make a mistake? Or been unexpectedly caught a little short? Life is full of surprises. POSTMARK Credit Union understands and wants to help protect you against some of life’s unexpected surprises with our new Courtesy Pay program.

Courtesy Pay is a discretionary overdraft service that can help save you the embarrassment of a “bounced” check or a declined debit card, ATM withdrawal, ACH or Point-of-Sale transaction. Courtesy Pay is available for checks, ACH, and everyday debit card transactions if you opt in for the Courtesy Pay program. POSTMARK will only approve and pay overdrafts for ATM and everyday debit card transactions if you ask us to by completing the online form or emailing memberservice@postmarkcu.com, or by calling or coming into our office.

How Courtesy Pay works is simple. We offer to pay items presented against your checking account when your account balance is not sufficient to do so. Instead of returning the transaction to the merchant for non-sufficient funds (NSF), we pay it and overdraw your account.

There is no fee for having Courtesy Pay, unless you use it. And if you do need to use Courtesy Pay, there is a fee of $19.00 per item. This means that if multiple items are presented against your account on the same day, each item will be assessed a Courtesy Pay fee of $19.00.

As with all overdrawn accounts, if you use the Courtesy Pay service, the outstanding balance on your account must be covered by a deposit as soon as possible. Negative account balances must be brought positive within thirty (30) days.

POSTMARK may not pay items under your Courtesy Pay if you do not maintain your account in good standing. This means you must bring your account balance to a positive balance within thirty (30) days. In addition, if you default on any loan or other obligation to POSTMARK Credit Union, or if your account is subject to any legal or administrative order or levy, your Courtesy Pay privilege can be suspended.

Courtesy Pay helps to cover life’s unexpected emergencies and saves you from merchant NSF fees, interruption of services, and the embarrassment and inconvenience associated with returned or declined items.
